AI Expand grows an image past its original borders so it fits a new shape. Instead of cropping in, it paints outward to give you more room around the subject.
What it does
You point AI Expand at an image and a target aspect ratio, and it generates believable surroundings beyond the original edges. A square photo can become vertical for Reels or wide for a banner, all without cutting off the subject. The new areas are filled to match the existing lighting, texture, and content.
How to use it
- Open AI Expand and upload the image you want to extend.
- Choose the target aspect ratio, such as vertical, square, or wide.
- Set which directions to extend so the subject stays where you want it.
- Generate the expansion and review how the new edges blend with the original.
- Regenerate if a section looks off, then save the result when you're happy.
Tips
- Leave the subject off-center if you want the extra space to fall on one side.
- Expand in smaller steps for big size changes so the generated areas stay coherent.
- Works best when the original edges have simple, continuable backgrounds.
- Need to keep the same size but recompose instead? Use Resize & Reframe.
